Stockholm, Sweden, 1 June 2022 - At a ceremony jointly organized by LeadIT and the United Nations Stockholm +50 International Environment Conference, Volvo Construction Equipment president Melker Jernberg officially delivered the Volvo A30G articulated dump truck made from non-fossil steel to Swedish construction contractor NCC, marking the first construction machinery manufacturer in the world to deliver non-fossil steel products to customers.
The event was attended by John Kerry, the US President's special envoy for climate issues, and Annika Strandhall, Sweden's climate and environment minister.

The delivery of the Volvo A30G articulated dump truck is manufactured at Volvo Construction's plant in Braas, Sweden, using an existing production line within the plant and using non-fossil energy steel supplied by Swedish Steel Group (" SSAB "). As early as 2021, Volvo Group and SSAB reached a cooperation, and the world's first freight car made from non-fossil energy steel was released in October 2021.
Just nine months later, the Volvo A30G articulated dump truck, made from non-fossil steel, was delivered, another milestone in the Volvo Group's drive to transform the industry and meet its climate goals. At present, Volvo construction equipment products made from non-fossil steel are still in the production and commissioning stage, and will gradually expand the commercial scope in the future.
Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo Construction Equipment, said: "We firmly believe that building consensus and mobilizing collective wisdom across the value chain is the only way to achieve decarbonisation in the infrastructure sector. Volvo Construction Equipment is proud to work side by side with such forward-looking companies as SSAB to create a green wave of non-fossil fuels in the industry. Today, we are the first construction machinery manufacturer in the world to deliver non-fossil energy steel products to our customers, and the brand vision of building an ideal life with Volvo construction equipment is realized."
Tomas Carlsson, president and CEO of NCC, a Swedish building and contracting company, said: "NCC has been contributing to the cause of sustainable development for many years. We have never compromised the environmental friendliness of construction machinery products. "NCC's acceptance of the world's first construction machinery product made from non-fossil steel is another example of the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration for green transformation."
Based on the Scientific Carbon Targets Initiative (SBTi), Volvo construction equipment will achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. To this end, Volvo Construction Equipment is steadily advancing the process of electrification of its products. In The Chinese market, Volvo Construction Equipment Jinan R & D Center and global R & D departments work together to carry out localized design, and will gradually introduce the mature electrization experience in The European market into China, forming a dominant trend of 6 types of electric excavators from compact to medium-sized, from battery powered to plug-in by 2025.
Depending on availability, Volvo Construction Equipment will progressively increase the proportion of non-fossil steel in its products and components to help reduce its carbon footprint across the value chain.
